Full Moon, 29 May 2018

A full moon occurs on the early morn of 30 May 2018. This full moon occurs in an extra (intercalary) month by name Adhik Jyestha, and is devoted to Lord Krishna. The name Jyestha comes from the nakshatra the moon occupies at the time of full moon. It is a time of celebration (for Buddhists) and a time of emotional challenge, for some.

On Full Moon Day, millions of Buddhists will celebrate Vesak, or “Buddha Day.” Vesak “marks the birth, enlightenment, and death of the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, born 2,600 years ago. These three significant events in the Buddha’s life are all said to have happened on the same day many years apart.”

Those who celebrate don’t all celebrate on the same day. In China, for instance, Vesak is often celebrated in June. But, for everyone, the occasion offers a chance to appreciate the Buddha and all that he did.

Tibetan Buddhism: Saka Dawa

Saka Dawa represents the holiest and most sacred days in Tibetan Buddhism, when they celebrate the birth, enlightenment and death (parinirvana) of the Buddha Shakyamuni. Falling on the fourth month of the Tibetan Calendar, the religious festivities of Saka Dawa peak on the 15th Lunar Day when there is a full moon. In Tibetan, Dawa means “month” while Saka means the “name of the closest star to the earth” during the lunar month which is prominently visible. The merit of any good deeds that you perform during this month are considered to be multiplied many times over — by as much as one hundred million times 2 — so it is an excellent time to dedicate ourselves to all kinds of spiritually positive actions

Adhika Masa – the Extra Month

The concept of Adhika Masa is unique to the traditional Hindu lunar calendars. In 2018 Hindu calendar, there is an Adhika Masam or Adhik Masa or an extra month. This Adhika Masa is from May 16, 2018 to June 13, 2018 as per North Indian Calendar. In Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the Adika Masa is also from May 16, 2018 to June 13, 2018. This extra month is known as Adhik Jyeshta Maas or Adhik Jyeshta Mahina. The Adhika Masa is dedicated to Sri Krishna.

So in 2018 there are thirteen months in Hindu Lunar calendar. Apart from the normal 12 months, there is an an Adhik Jyeshta Masa.

The Planets

At the time of the full moon, Mercury and Venus will be in exchange of Lordship, bringing much pleasantry and good relations with people. The Sun is conjunct Mercury, in Rohini nakshatra. Rohini is said to be the favourite wife of the Moon. This period is a good one for all things romantic. It is also a great time for getting involved with any type of creative project, especially if it involves music or dance. Rohini is a gardener’s Nakshatra as well.

At this time – in the navamsha – the two nodes of the Moon, Rahu and Ketu are debiliated and sandi, deprived of energy and strength. They will quickly move retrograde, Ketu into Aries (making Aries a very crowded house with four other planets there) and Rahu to Libra where Rahu may behave like Saturn. They will be much stronger after they have moved (retrograde) into new signs.

This full moon is quite strong, it is vargottama moon, occupying the same sign in the birth chart and the navamsha: Scorpio (Vrishikha). The Moon is debilitated in Scorpio, yet, comforted by explorations of mystery and the urge towards self-transformation. The Moon gives an important clue to the monthly Full-Moon meditation, as this is the place where the mind retreats to engage in emotional damage control. There can be emotionalised blaming and new toxicity in relationships. This is the pada of the 7th and 12th houses, meaning (7) important, close relationships, and (12) confinement, loss, removal from the world and society. Care is needed, hence, the need to focus on positive energy for all one’s relationships and acquaintances during this full moon time.

The moon is the presiding deity of the mind; emotional damage control is needful in order to keep existing relationships open and filled with love and tolerance

Full Moon

Full Moons are times when strong and plentiful energy floods the Earth. This energy, directed by the Full Moon – may be taken and used for benefit. Hence, the Hierarchy offer us the choice to harness energies for planetary benefit by doing group meditation and directing energy in the form of love, light or healing, wherever there is a need. As there are a plenitude of places where humanity is suffering on Earth in this day with Tropical Cyclone Mekunu dumping 3 years worth of rain in Oman on one day; the Kiluea volcano eruption with its multiple fissures threatens more volcanic explosions and Tropical Cyclone Sagar – these new cyclones in most rare locations – Sagar killed 19 people in flash floods and affected thousands more. Florida has declared a state of emergency for all its 67 counties as the state continues to monitor and prepare for Subtropical Storm “Alberto.” Over 300 homes have been destroyed after several big cracks opened in Uganda’s Namisinfwa district over the past couple of days … … all these places and more benefit from Full Moon Meditation, healing and love.

The Hierarchy have advised us that the times of the Full Moon are times when energy is magnified, and multiplied. Groups sitting together in meditation on peace, harmony, goodwill towards all have a manifold affect on the energies surrounding our planet when they do this on the Full Moon day. If it is not possible to do so on the actual day, then, we have been told, the day before or the day after will also serve as days of excellence in sending out positive harmony, peace and helpful energies to all places on our Earth.

Meditating on light can raise the level of light within the individual. Meditating on light for our home, Planet Earth, can raise the level of light in places where this is needed. For LIGHT can be, as you know when you turn on a light in a room it has different voltages in different countries – in some countries it is brighter – sometimes it is darker. In a way, the Light in each individual on this Earth is the same. Sometimes it is brighter and sometimes it is darker. Such meditation is always of help to others.

A meditation on light is available on this website, here (opens in new window)

Focus on Planetary Healing

We have been advised by the Hierarchy that part of the Planetary Healing meditations at the time of Full Moon are to include healing of the waters – external waters on our planet, and internal waters within the human. The Earth’s water, in particular, needs healing.

“Radiation from Fukushima flowing into the Pacific Basin;
The Hierarchy tells that ALL WATER on this planet needs cleansing … “
