shrey, shreyas– Hin. m. shreyas San. n. better condition, good fortune, welfare, blessing, auspiciousness; merit, credit; the state that is the most glorious and preferable. Shreyas is beyond human effort and is attainable only by the grace of God, unlike preyas, the seemingly pleasant path of worldly achievement, which is won by self-effort or karma and results in further bondage. ‘One is good, while the other is pleasant.’

We had referred earlier to the Sun gracing one and all with light and life without separation nor division. Each and all receive the benefices of the Sun’s activities.

The Sun gives favourableness, advantageousness, positivity and profit to all the activities of those who receive light, heat and magnetism energy from the Sun. All are blessed by the activity of the Sun; it is up to us how this benefits us. We make take this energy in measured dose with spiritual common sense, we make take this for loka-kalyanam – the welfare of the world – or we may be selfish and use the energy to our own ends. Using energy in a negative fashion binds us to the outcomes of our activity. This is not the work of the Sun.

The work of the Sun is all auspiciousness, all gracefulness, all benefice, all uplift and all favourableness. The work of the Sun enables life to exist, it enables human flourishing, it enables all forms of life to reach the goal of life.
