All Planets Direct Meditation

A rare phenomena will occur from 8 January to 7 February when all the planets will take up direct motion, when viewed from the Earth. This event will make the Earth seem like the Sun, where planets are never retrograde (seemingly going backwards). A world meditation for peace, harmony and positivity will be undertaken during this period, for it is a period without major obstructions and blemishes. Any worldwide synchronised meditation on peace and harmony will benefit both all on Earth and those who contribute to the meditation.

Spiritual Opportunities in the Birth Chart

opportrunities Vedic astrology is essentially the chart of the soul, the soul-contract for this lifetime. It shows what our body will be like, our siblings, our illnesses, our health, our career, our home environment and the influence of others on us, as well as our influence on the world. When we are born, we bring a blessing to our family. The family in turn gives us our nurturance, our love, our strength, and our opportunities to fulfil the soul contract this time. In this reflection, we look to the houses of the birth chart and the spiritual opportunities given therein. Read more

Looking at Spirituality and Houses

lightbulb In a previous article we looked at Spirituality and Intelligence. While intelligence is said to reside in the 5th House, this overlooks the antarkaranas, the inner instruments of action, which comprise the intellect, the buddhi. The heart is a key; turn it toward the world, it will be bound by the world. Turn the key of the heart towards the divine, and it shall unlock the presence of the divine within. In this post, we look to the astrological significators of the presence of the divine within. Read more

Looking at Spirituality and Intelligence

lightbulb It is often said that all intelligence is problem solving skill. Our spiritual practices form one of the resources within ourselves which we may use to solve the problems of life. It is this spiritual resource (spiritual intelligence) – with its five aspects – which enables us to solve everyday problems with an abiding peace within. Read more

Meditation and the Five Sheaths

As the chaotic nodes of religious fanaticism, ecosystem collapse, corporate greed and manipulation and climate change grow momentum, expand of their own accord and multiply their energetic sheaths, in these days of the Moon hemmed in by malefics, Saturn direct, Mars debilitated about to conjunct Venus by degree, and Jupiter in Leo no longer aspecting Saturn, there can be challenges. We look to offer you a simple, energy visualistion to keep you balanced in the days to come, as the subtle energies of the planets continue to flow to us. Hence the iceberg: the subtle energies of the planets touch us on levels we do not ordinarily perceive. Read more

Discussion: Saturn in Scorpio

Saturn in Scorpio

A scenario has been presented describing the effects of Saturn's sojourn in the sign of Scorpio. Mars and Saturn never do well together in any sign, and it is well known that Saturn travels poorly in Scorpio, the natural 8th house which has Mars as sign lord. Many astrologers predict what they will, and some consult astrologers out of fear. Those engaged in the discussion reported below are both devotees of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who teaches, "Why fear when I am here?". The discussion is frank, full throated and offered for your reflection.

Note on Hayagreeva

Hayagreeva with consort Lakshmi

Hayagreeva Jayanthi looms on the morrow, so we look to the significance of Hayagreeva for Jyothish, the science of light within the human. The giving of the Vedas to Brahma is the giving of light to prakriti, nature. Therein we look to the significance of the avatar Hayagreeva for jyothisha. Astrologers ever seek to give accurate messages to those who seek their services and the need for purity in thought, word and action is examined, along with the purity of knowledge within which is granted by Lord Hayagreeva.

Shani Chalisa

Shani Dham Temple is located in the Indian capital of Delhi

Devotion to Gods is often in a form of a narrative of their acts, their deeds, their properties, their strengths and how their devotees are cared for. Many Gods in Hindu devotional material interact with other Gods, animals who can communicate, and humans. The Mahabharatha is the great story of the presence and actions of the Gods among men and women in the history of India which was called - and still is - Bharath. Hence, Mahabharatha, the Great Story of Bharath. Shani Chalisa records the many facets of Shani, planet Saturn in the ancient times, and also recalls the transits of Planet Saturn.

Note on Saturn Direct

Saniesharwara

Planet Saturn, retrograde since early March 2014 in Libra, will cease retrograde motion on 20 July, and then go direct. Planets represent concentrations of life force. Their placement in different signs represents the exertions of life-force in those areas which are signified by the planet's occupation. Retrograde means "do-good". Saturn ceases retrograde motion and resumes its slow forward motion. We look to some aspects of this Saturn direct movement as Saturn is seven times more powerful than the Sun.

Note on Change of Rahu – Ketu Axis

Rahu Ketu Axis

Rahu and Ketu are always 180° apart. This constitutes an axis known as the Rahu-Ketu Axis or RKA. This axis is important as it divides the horoscope into two parts. This axis has a special relevance in health and disease and is of importance to medical astrology.

Both Rahu and Ketu are considered as malefics and any planets falling in the Rahu-Ketu axis get damaged. As Rahu and Ketu are both non-conformist, the damage tends to be revealed as unorthodox - opinions, beliefs, views, non-conformist to expectations and the status quo. While Rahu and Ketu are very good for the spiritual pursuits a person may have, they tend to damage the material dimensions of life.

On Monday, 14 July, the Rahu-Ketu axis will change from the Libra - Aries position it has held for the last 18 months. Ever retrograde, these shadow planets will retrograde out of Libra and Aries and move to a Virgo - Pisces axis early in the morning, where they will remain for the next 18 months. We look to the likely effects of this transition between signs and consider conjunctions and aspects.

Mohini Ekadashi

Mohini with pot of amrith

This day of May 11, 2014 is Mohini Ekadashi. Mohini, as astrologers recall, plays a central role in the story of the two nodes, Rahu and Ketu. The demon Swabhanu engaged in deception as Mohini was doling out the amrith to the gods and at the same time, bestowing her bounteous beauty and enchantment upon the asuras - demons - who had fought the gods for the right to partake of amrit, the nectar of immortality. Mohini is the only ever female incarnation of Vishnu, the god of sustenance and preservation of kalapurusha, time and space.

Meditation on Light

Light for Meditation

Many years ago, perhaps in the early days of awakening in the New Age movement, the times of the 11-11 portal openings, many seers and visionaries were reporting that a time of three days of darkness was to come; there would be no light, no electricity, and humanity would be living in darkness. As most of humanity would be in ignorance of this, this was expected to be a time of terror and extreme reactions by persons unable to cope with such a catastrophe, as some would call this. It is now understood that in the last three months, this "wall of darkness" has occluded the light, and darkened the inner light to some extent in the social, intellectual, physical and spiritual domains of the person.
