For those who live in the northern hemisphere, August’s full Moon was traditionally called the Sturgeon Moon because the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain (North America) were most readily caught during this part of summer. Away from the fish and on to concerns of this day and age, the madding crowd with their empty fears and similar noises can give us much to worry about. However, the planets stand ready for you to take up their energy for positive effect and turn this world around.
Mars, the warrior, Son of the Earth is in the sign of water, Pisces, third planet from the Moon. Planets placed third from the moon find themselves discussing emergencies. Or discoveries. It is a place of emotional communication, and in this location, Pisces, Mars may drive a release of emotion which splatters in all directions and does not mind the sensitivities of others. There can be a strong desire for personal privacy in this situation; the time for reflection and the inner vision. Problem is, Mars here can be unsettling and urging not acceptance of matters as they are but taking action, strident, loud, attention-seeking action.
Sixth from the moon is Venus in Gemini, in the sign of Mercury. Venus is conjunct Rahu, to within 2°; so within the orb of Venus, which is 7°. In the sixth-from, we encounter agents of emotional mistreatment, illness, injury, or harm. That is one aspect of 6th-from; another is community service, of which there is a strong demand in these days of Coronavirus. However, responding requires discrimination, and Rahu, master of smoke and mirrors and social recognition, may have one or another jumping in and wasting time in unproductive pursuits. Some community service organisations have pleaded, “Please, no more home-baked foods”, because there is too much and food is going to waste. Provide community service – yes, provide that where you have skill and ability, not where you can prove yourself. A hero is a zero, not needed in these days of coronavirus.
In the seventh house from the Moon – at this time of full Moon – we find Mercury and the Sun in Cancer, the Moon’s own sign. Here we find seeking of emotional stability in face of strong personalities (Sun) and a tendency to be a bit flighty and look beyond our partner to other sources for inner, personal stability in relationship with all that is happening in the outside world: lockdown, social distancing, fears, financial challenges, security of work – even, continuity of work! These are challenging times with strong voices yelling Fear! Bad News! Gloom and Doom! The four horsemen of the Apocalypse are astride Planet Earth.
Well, you know something? Saturn is your friend, and here, Saturn conjunct Moon is aspecting this Sun and Mercury combination and saying, Take It Slowly. As we have said here in place, the planets can raise you up, they can pull you down. We speak the language of light, and how you draw that light within you. You can use the planets, to advantage. You can take up the calm, clear, slow, determined and sticking to tried-and-tested common sense and experience of Saturn, and ignore the madding crowd. You can take your time, turn to the inherent divinity within, and seek your inner guidance, who is always there, waiting to help. Or, you can call on your guides, your angels, your ascended masters, whenever a call for help is put out, it is always answered..
In the 12th house from the Moon, we find Jupiter, retrograde, in his own sign, Sagittarius. Ketu is there, also, fomenting discord, fear and worry about the pandemic, or personal health. Keep in mind that FEAR is False Expectations Appearing Unreal. While Ketu may be in Mula nakshatra – the place of destruction – recall that we also arise every morning from the dark of night, ready for the new day. The other side of Ketu’s destruction of the external order of things, is the creation of space to construct a new order. Jupiter here likes to do things in camouflage, with hidden forces and confidential affairs. Jupiter, the multiplier of energy within, is retrograde (doing good) in camouflage and trying to restore belief in the public order and in the authorities protecting the community. Jupiter is about philosophy, the path through life and the attendant beliefs. Jupiter promulgates the four goals of good government – protection of industry, facilitation of trade and commerce, protection of the economy and protection of the community at large.
Jupiter in the house of losses (12th from Moon) is propping up the typical human response to this dissolution of form (dissolution of the public order) and providing the energy to re-establish this area of life experience, to re-formulate it, and to make it more tangible and more viable. Remember, the planets can raise us up, they can pull us down. How do you take up the energy of Jupiter here? Do you read the bad news, the horror numbers of new cases and deaths, or do you sent out light and love, look out for your friends and neighbours, and those in need? Jupiter supplies the energy (remember, retrograde means “do good” – pour out the energy); it is up to you to use it to benefit one and all. Losses can become strengths.
Full Moon Meditation:
We spoke earlier about managing our inner self-talk and how important this is for human integrity and purity.
In this wise, we must recall, “As you think, so you become”; we must recall yad bhavati, tad bhavatum, as the feeling, so the result. We must also watch our words, for words affect the cells in the body; what we say out loud becomes a spell that affects every cell, every electron, proton, neutron in the cell. Words are powerful. In Sanathana Dharma, we have the principle of true humanness, which is built on trikarana suddhi, the unity of thoughts, words and actions. This is human integrity.
For the full moon meditation this month, we recommend inner chanting of the following mantra. It recalls your I AM essence, that is, the essence of the Soul. It recalls the statement that the universe is based on truth, and therefore, your life is based on truth. It reminds you that you are an embodiment of love, and that you carry the eternal love of the Creator within your heart. It states you are light, you emerged from light, that this world is light, light, light. Share your light with others, let them see the light within your eyes.
Repeat this mantra with inner chanting any time of your day,
Start the day with I AM THE LIGHT. I AM THE LOVE. I AM THE TRUTH. I AM.
I am One with the Great I AM.
Fill the day with I AM THE LIGHT. I AM THE LOVE. I AM THE TRUTH. I AM.
I am One with the Great I AM.
Spend the day with I AM THE LIGHT. I AM THE LOVE. I AM THE TRUTH. I AM.
I am One with the Great I AM.
End the day with I AM THE LIGHT. I AM THE LOVE. I AM THE TRUTH. I AM.
I am One with the Great I AM.
You will change this world, you will raise this world to the light.
You will raise this world to the Love.
You will raise this world to the truth.
I AM THE LIGHT. I AM THE LOVE. I AM THE TRUTH. I AM.
I am One with the Great I AM.
I AM THE LIGHT. I AM THE LOVE. I AM THE TRUTH. I AM.
I am One with the Great I AM.
I AM THE LIGHT. I AM THE LOVE. I AM THE TRUTH. I AM.
I am One with the Great I AM.
