Om Rjusvabhavavittaya Namaha, Salutations to the One who is renowned for his upright nature. The essential character of the Sun is incorruptible; in performing its duty as Star of this solar system, and its duty as graha, seizing, grasping, the Sun sheds its light, heat and energy upon all, equally. This is the dharma, the swabhava of the Sun.

Swabhava is one’s essential nature, one’s essential character. Children exhibit joy and happiness for they are revelling in the untainted joy of their own innate nature. They are not contaminated by the outward going senses directed by desire. Sahajaswabhava is man’s essential nature of joy. This is what the children exhibit.

The Sun has a swabhava, an inner wealth, an upright stance as the karakamsa: it is the second significator of the soul. As karakamsa, it represents the action, the making, doing, acting, who or what does or produces or creates an activity that represents the soul path this lifetime. In various signs, the Sun indicates the soul contract, that is, the activities chosen by the soul to be taken up; those interactions with family, friends, peers and intimate partners.

The essential nature of the Sun, the innate character, upright and renowned will indicate the essential character (what is seen, what is done, what is expressed by the person) by which we may know and interact with a person. The Sun is known as incorruptible and follows its own dharma, shedding light, heat, pitta energy, strength of soul upon all equally, as benefic or malefic planet in the birth chart.
