Moon - a royal planet

Om vikartanaujaya namaha – Salutations to the One who is near to the Sun like a brother or sister.

The Sun and the Moon are the royal planets; they are the primary luminaries that fill the human form with light from light. The Moon reflects the light of the Sun, the Sun – self effulgent – gives energy, frequency and vibration to the human. Both the Sun and the Moon deliver energy to the mind, body and soul.

To be related is to be like the one whom there is a relation with. Attitude, behaviour, character, these flow from relationship.

Sun and Moon are bound together from Creation to Involution in eternal service to humanity. Both Sun and Moon follow dharma; that is to say, they uphold right conduct by the flawless example they set in the heavens. Sita and Rama are also typical of this relationship between Sun and Moon:

Sita refused to stay back in the capital, when Rama moved into the forest. She said, “My parents have taught me the right path for the wife; I know that the path lies along the footsteps of the husband. You are the moon, Rama-chandra; I am the Light of the Moon. We are inseparable, We have to be together.”

When the Sun rises, the world is blessed with heat and light. When the Guru blesses, the pupil gets peace and joy. Guru Pournima is not over when it becomes tomorrow. It is not a date marked in the calendar. It is all days when the mind of man, whose presiding deity is the Moon, is full (poorna), with cool refreshing rays, which is receives, in the first instance, from the Sun (Intelligence). The mind must derive illumination from the intellect, the discriminative faculty, and not from the senses, which are the deluding forces. When sensual desire tarnishes the mind, it cannot earn peace and joy.
