The December Full Moon takes place on Sunday 19 December; the Solstice follows on 22 December. Solstices occur on 20th or 21st June and 21st or 22nd December each year. During summer the day of the solstice is the longest day of the year and during winter the day of the solstice is the shortest day of the year. There are several astrological events at this time.
Changes in the Earth’s magnetic field are caused by electrical currents in the upper atmosphere of both polar regions, created by space weather. These magnetic variations can cause unwanted electrical currents in electricity networks, like the National Grid, which need to be forecasted to avoid damage. These electrical currents are also associated with aurora—the Northern and Southern Lights.
Professor Mervyn Freeman, a space physicist at British Antarctic Survey, says that “we expect solar eclipses to change electrical currents in the upper atmosphere by increasing the electrical resistance of the upper atmosphere—but at the moment we’re don’t fully understand how.”
Keep in mind that eclipses tend to affect nations as well as individuals, with between 3-6 months influence depending on the natal chart.
We look to events in December:
- Jupiter moved into Aquarius
- Mars is conjunct Ketu
- Sun has moved into Sagittarius
- Venus has turned retrograde, vargottama
- All planets are between Rahu and Ketu, causing Karla Sarpa Yoga
- The Moon will move in and out between Rahu and Ketu, giving partial relief each fortnight;
- Karla Sarpa Yoga (the serpent of time) will be broken when Mercury moves past Rahu
- The Full Moon occurs in Mrigasiras, nakshatra of Mars and is aspected by Mars.
Jupiter in Aquarius
Jupiter was in Aquarius earlier in the year from April 5 to September 14, and now will remain in Aquarius again until April 13, 2022. Mostly in 2021 and until January 2, Jupiter is in Dhanistha nakshatra, which focuses on economic and business matters but also expresses a great deal of world conflict due to the tension between its rulers Mars and Saturn who are enemies.
With this, we will see the further rise of techno-populism, as well as ongoing ET/UFO Disclosure, and groundbreaking medical or scientific breakthroughs and inventions as have occurred in previous transits. Jupiter in Aquarius will likely offer a number of strategies responding to SARS-COV2 and all its variants. However, to halt this pandemic, the humans of this world have to change thinking about the virus, and drop the fear. Iti drishti iti, the seen reflects the seer. If you fear a virus out of control, you will create that. If you send love and light then you create viral immunity for yourself and yours. We are not conspiracy theorists, nor dreamers. Jupiter in Aquarius gave us the mercury thermometer (1714); bifocal lenses (1784); the early smallpox vaccine (1796); the first pediatric corrective heart surgery (1938); first human limb attachment (1962); discovery of a genetic component in Alzheimer’s (1986); and the first live-liver transplant surgery (1998).
This outcome will require discipline as Saturn is Lord of Aquarius, and 2/12 from Jupiter an aspect that is prone to inertia and tension. With Saturn in the 12th from Jupiter, some shadowy matters may come to light, forcing us to reassess personal paths and beliefs and planning. At this time of Full Moon Jupiter is in the 11 house, of peer relations, workplace relations, relations with siblings, mental health, social networking, like this. While the exuberance of Jupiter is curbed by Saturn, this curbing will be felt in manifold relationships. Take care and chant the Gayatri mantra if your energy should peeter out.
Mars is conjunct Ketu
The massive influence of this conjunction peaked some days past. Kuja vat Ketu is the rule, Ketu behaves like Mars – and Ketu is co-Lord with Mars in Scorpio. This conjunction is strong and will have effect if you have any planets near 7° of Scorpio. Keep in mind that Ketu is still in the orb of influence of Mars, so the effects will continue to be felt until Mars and Ketu fully separate. This will happen around 27 December. So, explosive energy, over-reaction, building up steam and letting it out inappropriately may still occur until that direct influence ceases. The suggestion is to be the witness in all your interactions, and to take time before responding or reacting to anyone or anything. You are the immortal atma, you were never born and you will never cease to exist. What then of the ephemeral three-day-carnival of this world? Nothing! So take your time. Build atma-balan, strength of the atma with your patience.
Sun in Sagittarius
This is a good place and time for the Sun: Jupiter (Lord of Sagittarius) and Sun are good friends, and there are no planets aspecting the Sun here. The Sun, in fact, is the strongest planet at this time of Full Moon. Mercury shares the same sign – recovering from a recent bout of gandanta and combustion. Jupiter and Sun have a mystical connection, one that boosts spiritual energy that lasts over a period of days. This is one of the reasons why we have Christmastide, the 12 Days of Christmas, Hannukah, Easter-tide, the Nine days of the Divine Mother, like this. All the religions share this sacred mystical energy flowing over a number of days.
Sun is in Moola nakshatra, the place where creation occurred for this Universe, and the Dark Star of Maheshvara where all that exists is received at the end of existence. While we are immortal, we are in the human body and feel – from time to time – the aspirations of eternity and our journey home. Goddess Niritti is the deity of this nakshatra, a goddess of change and destruction. This energy is the energy of change and transformation while in the material sheath, so with Sun in papa-ketari (hemmed in) between Saturn and Mars, don’t let that self-destructive impulse take you over. Keep your eye on the goal of life, and your path to the goal. Your atma knows the way, it is always pointing home, like a searchlight in the night.
Venus turns retrograde
At present, Venus is in Capricorn with its friend Saturn, who is Lord of Capricorn and getting quite the protection from Saturn. A good place for Venus, who is Lord of an Earth sign and an Air sign, like Saturn. Venus turns retrograde on Sunday, Dec. 19th in this sign at 2 degrees. It retrogrades back into Sagittarius Dec. 29-Feb 26th. As the Sun is in Sagittarius, getting to close to the Sun brings combustion. Venus is combust Jan. 3-13, 2022.
Moving into the sign of Jupiter will see Venus become / behave a little like Jupiter. (Keep in mind retro means do good, do strong!) This means the usual significations of Venus will be multiplied, and the effects will be more strongly felt. While most people think Venus = love, amorous relationships and an abundance of sexual activity, Venus is actually an artisan, signifying gracefulness in art, music, gardening, decorating, theatre, acting, poetry, walking and communing with nature. With the Lordship of Jupiter (who is a multiplier) we can expect to have these sensitivities, feelings and artistry in our lives magnified during Venus retrograde. How will you honour Venus?
We mentioned in the list above, that Venus is vargottama, in the same sign in both the birth chart and the navamsa, the 9th harmonic. This makes the influence of Venus stronger, and it becomes a somewhat powerful position for Venus and will create some reflections within about our path to the future. It would be good to take time: a time to process inner issues, look to new strategies and consider: Where are you stuck in your life? Where is the record in your mind playing the same tune over and over again? What has the ego – ahamkara (that says, I, Me, Mine!) – tucked away and said, “This is settled, this won’t be changed. Here is how I was in the beginning, am now and ever shall be, world without end, Amen!
It is very hard to look at the ego and look to where we are stuck in our lives. For Venus to be vargottama in the 9th, the Navamsa, brings an opportunity to look at those things we know deep within are hard to change, and maybe – take the strong energy of this retrograde Venus and put a strategy in place. Venus will go through planetary war with Mercury on 29 December. When Mercury has passed, the lines of communication within will be clear and less impulsive, giving a gateway for lasting change.
Karla Sarpa Yoga ~ the Serpent of Time
Karla Sarpa yoga sees all planets between the two nodes: Rahu and Ketu. Half the chart is empty, half the chart is full. In Vedic Astrology, Rahu and Ketu have important functions with respect to maya, the veil of illusion, and karma, the repository of actions done in the past. We are all born with maya, illusion. We cannot see our true selves, we do not know what actions we undertook in the past and how we came to be born again. Ketu is thought of as the karmic repository, the cauldron of selected past karma we have chosen to consume and expiate in this life. Rahu is the principle of desire, action-reaction which causes karma to be delivered, right on time, according to the divine schedule.
At this time of Full Moon, the Rahu-Ketu axis is Taurus – Scorpio:~ what may be thought of as the natural 2/8 axis in the chart. Rahu in the second house signifies unusual financial activities, unusual actions with property or forms of wealth and possessions. It also has an eye on other people’s money and finances. The 8th house is called the house of dis-incarnation ( rather comfortable place for Ketu). It is also the house of legacies and inheritances, dowry and unearned income. The Rahu-Ketu axis is malefic and is an axis of affliction. Don’t be afflicted with dreams of big money. Scams prevail aplenty on the internet and gambling beckons with promises of luck and big prizes. Dismiss the glam and glitter, you are born with all the luck you are going to have with the rings below your wrist. That doesn’t change. With Ketu in the 8th house, detachment from outer events can produce something of a blasé attitude to all that goes past: swipe left, scroll down, crash and burn, move on to the next one. It’s all so boring.
The Moon is the fastest planet and breaks Karl Sarpa (as it is doing right now). It will join Mars and Ketu on 31 December and Karla Sarpa will prevail until January 13. The Moon will continue to weave in and out of the Kala Sarpa every two weeks…two weeks in, two weeks out, and we will be in this pattern until Mercury moves outside the nodal axis on April 25, 2022. So, every two weeks, forget the get-rich-quick ideas!
The Full Moon:
The Moon is in the sign of Mercury, and aspected by Jupiter, granting some gracefulness and appreciation of the times, our situation, and our immediate future. Jupiter expands energy, so the energy of this full Moon is somewhat influenced by the very strong Sun and Mercury, opposite the Moon, and Mars giving the 8th glance or drishti from Scorpio. Lot of influence on the Moon, much of it benefic, goodly and godly. While the Mars influence is strong, the deity is Chandra, Moon, who is the presiding deity of the mind.
Lord Krishna says (in Bhagavad Gita) that the mind accompanies the soul to the new body. This is why it is so important to master the mind and become a mastermind. This is done with mind management, chanting of mantras, mindfulness and the evanescent reminders of sat-chit-ananda (being-awareness-bliss) that we give ourselves with each and every act of spiritual discipline. This particular Full Moon fructifies spiritual efforts for it is the Mrigasiras full Moon. Of the 12 months, Lord Krishna says, “I am the month of Mrigasiras amongst all of the twelve months.” Therefore, Mrigasiras full Moon reflects the capacity for spiritual effort, devotion, blessings, and nearness to divinity. Pursue.
The Time of Full Moon
Full Moons are times when strong and plentiful energy floods the Earth. This energy, directed by the Full Moon – may be taken and used for benefit. Hence, the Hierarchy offer us the choice to harness this time of strong energy for planetary benefit by doing group meditation and directing energy in the form of love, light or healing, wherever there is a need. There have been many places experiencing the pandemic on Earth in the past month. There has been fear, suffering, people locked in their homes or in enforced quarantine in other locations, the suffering and disconnect affects many. Minds are bound by rules, quarantine, flattening the curve, and disconnect from the larger communities and those whom they have love and affection for.
The Hierarchy have advised us that the times of the Full Moon are times when energy is magnified, and multiplied. Groups – or individuals – sitting in meditation with peace, harmony, goodwill towards all have a manifold affect on the energies surrounding our planet when they do this on the Full Moon day. If it is not possible to do so on the actual day, then, we have been told, the day before or the day after will also serve as days of excellence in sending out positive harmony, peace and helpful energies to all places on our Earth.
Meditating on light can raise the level of light within the individual. Meditating on light for our home, Planet Earth, can raise the level of light in places where this is needed. For LIGHT can be, as you know when you turn on a light in a room it has different voltages in different countries – in some countries it is brighter – sometimes it is darker. In a way, the Light in each individual on this Earth is the same. Sometimes it is brighter and sometimes it is darker. Meditation is always of help to others.
Guided Meditation
You may listen to this meditation from Cosmic Sai Baba:
We just see ourselves – we are all joined together – in one circle of light; and raising our consciousness, letting our eyes roll back in our heads a little, so that you imagine you are looking outside the atmosphere of Earth, into the Universe. Don’t force your eyes too much, just enough so that you feel you are looking outwards and up.
And we are joining the world of Light; the Universal Light; the Source of All Creation. And we ask the Angels to be with us, to assist us. They are always with us, but now we are connecting to them in a conscious way.
We feel the light coming down now – from the apex of a pyramid – going through the top of our head, filling our head with light, and our neck, and shoulders, and arms, and hands … and our chest, the back, our waist … and our stomach, and our buttocks, and our thighs. And the light coming further down to the knees, the shins and the calves, and to the ankles and the feet; the soles of the feet and the toes. And feel it swirling around, going out and then returning back to the world of light, so that we feel that we are sitting in a cosmic egg of light.
And keep seeing that movement – like a river – coming down from the world of light, down past our body, out through the feet, and back up to the world of light – forming an egg shape of light around us. We feel ease and peace … very light … very happy.
So we realise that it is this place – that we can connect to our soul consciousness – that is held by our Angelic self, the Angel that’s always with us, with everyone; through our soul. We are all part of God; we are all God-beings; we are all part of Creation.
So feel happy … and released from pain; and feel joy and upliftment; because we know this is our true self, this is who we really are. This is the consciousness that is within us … that is constantly assisting us – in some very small way – or rather strong way; sometimes with a sound, or a voice, or an image. And if it sounds like a voice, it may be a thought we think but it is actually coming from our soul consciousness.
Our soul consciousness is always for good, so it is the God consciousness that’s within us that is constantly trying to guide us in our lives, in a physical body. For without the soul there would be no life in the physical body (or not for very long). It does operate independently – but it is together that we walk … on this Earth … with Love of God with us always.
And sometimes we feel the consciousness advising us, not really realising if it comes from the soul consciousness. But we know it is something that doesn’t seem like a good idea. And so we re-think what way or what steps we should be taking in life. But then, if we ignore it, we look back and think, “I wished I had taken notice; I knew, I just knew, I had that feeling in me, that wasn’t a good decision.”
And sometimes a voice can be quite strong. And we know its not – if we really tune into it – it is not us – its not our own soul voice. It is coming from somebody else that’s in the ether and trying to cause mischief. And for this reason, we need to be aware of where the messages that we hear, or the thoughts that we hear, are coming from.
It is very simple really. The thoughts that come from the soul consciousness, are of God; they are of love; they never want to hurt anybody. They only want to assist, and uplift; to give and share the light of love from the Universe. Anything else … … does not belong. And so we can reject that. And it is very easy to sort out, if you feel happy, and contented and relaxed.
It is important that you spend time to relax … and sit … and meditate. And connect to the soul consciousness who we are now, and making it a habit. Maybe once a day … for a little time … until you feel uplifted and rested. It comes through the the top of your head and into your heart. And it is your heart that holds the feeling. It is the feeling that is most important … in all of your life … in all of your emotions … in all of your thoughts … and in all your actions … if you feel good about it … it is coming directly from the Source of All. It is your home. It is who you really are.
So be blessed and know you are always blessed. And feel happy and filled with joy … even though the road may be difficult at times. You know when you look back … if you are honest with yourself, you really have learned a lot from what was a very difficult time.
So be at peace,
be at peace,
be at peace
