Rahu and the Mind

mindscapeRahu is a shadow planet - a subtle planet without form which has an important function - that of ensuring that events occur as defined in the soul contract, the map of journey through life. Jupiter is the guru - guru of higher learning, sacred teachings and enjoys everything with largesse. The placement of Jupiter in the birth chart can indicate strength (and capacity) of the intellect. The mind derives much - if not all - of its understandings from the intellect. From January through August 2016, Rahu and Jupiter will be closely aligned in Leo. In this article we raise the question, 'What is the effect of Rahu on the mind?" Read more

A Christmas Full Moon

The final full moon of 2015 will rise on Christmas Day this year - the first time it has occurred at the same time as the holiday since 1977. NASA forecasts the two events will not coincide again until 2034. NASA said the full moon would also be the smallest since 2004. The astronomical event is called apogee and occurs when the moon is at the farthest reach of its orbit from the Earth, nearly 407,000 kilometres away.

We have shared - via guidance given from the Cosmic Hierarchy - that the Full Moon occasions are best days for meditations for world peace, and for sending positive energy out to those in need. We look to this occasion of Full Moon to consider the astrological indications of this full Moon at Christmas.

Note on the Full Moon of September 9

Jupiter Moon

This coming Full Moon on 9 September is one of three "super" moons in a row. Perhaps these full (super) Moons salute the three gods of Hinduism, Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara! As the Hierarchy – in the messages of Cosmic Sai Baba, Jalarm and Alcheringa – tell that group meditation for World Peace is particularly effective on full moon days, we offer a reflection on this coming "full moon" and the astrological significance surrounding this.

Note on the Full Moon of August 10

Full Moon

This coming Full Moon on 10 August – called a ‘super moon’ on account of perigee (closest to Earth) which will occur on 10 August. As the Hierarchy – in the messages of Cosmic Sai Baba, Jalarm and Alcheringa – recommends meditation on full moon days, we offer a reflection on this coming “super moon” and the astrological significance surrounding this.

Rahu in Virgo and the Moon: path to Ascension

smoke and moon

At the end of this month (July 2014) we will see the Moon will move into Virgo joining Rahu in Virgo for the first time in eighteen years. Some suggest this is a time when we may see hysteria emerge, for Rahu - smoky shadow planet - clouds the Moon, and perhaps, ever surging towards new horizons, clouds discrimination. We look to the various dimensions of Rahu conjunct Moon in Virgo, where Rahu will remain for the next 18 months.

Note about Planetary War

planetary war

Mars is currently encountering Rahu, and under the astrological dicta, Sani vat Rahu (Rahu behaves like Saturn), some reckon that a time of tension occurs as these to graha - seizers of energy - approach conjunction and change houses. Both planets will be sandhi, that is, somewhat depleted of energy as they are within one degree of house - sign boundary. This is not graha yuddha, planetary war. This will pass quickly.

However, planetary war will take place when Mars moves out of sandhi into Libra and gets to within 1 degree of Saturn. Some astrologers have told that this will be months of doom and disaster in various places on our planet. Some have said, inter-alia, that the four horsemen of the apocalypse will ride, and the end of an age with all its dreadful appurtenances will occur. We examine this phenomena from a spiritual discipline.

Ketu Questions

Ketu idol wreath by smoke

We have noticed further questions about Ketu raised by search engines which bring visitors to this site, so we will engage in more discussion about Ketu and address some of the questions raised: Ketu in various nakshatras, Ketu and the Moon, Ketu and Mars conjunction. And if there is time, we may address Ketu and Spirituality. We keep in mind that Ketu is a shadow planet, a karmic repository and an important agent on the journey toward the goal of life. Ketu (which means flag) actually flags important staging posts on the human journey of return to the Source.

Ketu, the opposite node to Rahu, came into being during the churning of the Ocean of Milk. The last gift of that churning was the emergence of the God of Healing, Dhanvantari, with the pot of amrit, the nectar of immortality. Ketu and Rahu were whole at that time, in the form of a demon known as Swabharnu, who engaged in subterfuge to obtain the nectar whilst it was being served out by the enchantress Mohini. The deception was discovered by the Sun and Moon, who ran tale-telling to the great God Maha Vishnu, who promptly sent his discus and separated the head from the body; the body is today known as Lord Ketu, South Node of the Moon.

Abhijit Nakshatra

Vega

Abhijit is a seldom used nakshatra; it is not counted among the 27 asterisms of the Moon. Abhijit is the Sanskrit name for Vega, the brightest star in the northern constellation of Lyra. Its longitude starts from the last quarter of Uttara Ashādhā to first part of Shravana. Abhijit nakshatra is not a regular nakshatra with four padas or quarters, it serves as an intercalary asterism most of the times. It is not mentioned as frequently as other asterisms in mythology. Moon is said to have 27 (not 28) wives with whom he stays for one day in a sidereal lunar month. Each of the 27 asterisms is feminine, only Abhijit is masculine. Abhijit Muhurta is an auspicious time in the Hindu panchang.

Navaratri – The Moon

moon art

Today is the second day of the Navaratri celebrations which are held for nine days. All festivals are meant to remind mankind that they should cultivate noble qualities by engaging themselves in activities beneficial to one’s own self and society. Sai Baba made this reference to Navaratri and the Nine Planets:

As part of Navaratri celebrations, people worship different forms of divinity. You should develop sacred feelings and experience divinity. What is the inner meaning of Navaratri celebrations? These nine nights represent nine planets. Each planet has its own significance. However, these planets are not outside, they are within. If your feelings are impure and unsacred, the result also will be the same. You are responsible for the good and bad you think and experience.

As the nine nights represent the nine planets, we will be focussing on Navaratri and the nine planets with an account of one or another the planets for nine nights. The second planet is The Moon. The second day of Navratri is Chandra darshan, darshan of the Moon. The colour for the second day of Navaratri is WHITE, so we will write in white for this second day observance of Navaratri (albeit with a temporary background so that white is actually visible!) .
